Stretch Marks During Pregnancy & After Delivery

Date: February 5, 2024
Author:Dr. Diana Mezher, Dermatologist, & Medical Cosmetologist

Getting stretch marks during pregnancy depends on your genetic predisposition. Some products might help your skin but not completely prevent stretch marks! Stretch marks are easier to treat when they still have a red-purple color; eventually, even without treatment, they will change color and become white, which will make them less visible.

Tips that might help during pregnancy:

  1. Moisturize areas where stretch marks are more likely to appear and gently massage them, such as the breasts, thighs, and belly.
  2. Avoid tanning; it might make them worse.
  3. Watch your weight gain.
  4. Stay hydrated.

Treatment after birth:

The faster stretch marks are treated, the more you are likely to achieve better results. However, treatments might only help decrease their appearance but won’t ultimately make them disappear.

Some treatments after birth include:

  1. Topical retinoids
  2. Laser therapy
  3. Microdermabrasion
  4. Chemical peels

Stretch marks are a reminder that you brought life into this world, so embrace and love them. Remember that you are beautiful, you are strong, and you are a wonderful woman!
